The National Adult Maltreatment Reporting System (NAMRS) is the first comprehensive, national reporting system for adult protective services (APS) programs. It collects quantitative and qualitative data on APS practices and policies, and the outcomes of investigations into the maltreatment of older adults and adults with disabilities. Report maltreatment, abuse, neglect, or exploitation to the Adult Abuse Hotline at 1-800-482-8049. Callers are asked a series of questions to determine if the referred individual meets the critera for a registered complaint. By law, the reporter's identity will remain confidential.
Elder abuse includes physical, emotional, or sexual harm inflicted upon an older adult, their financial exploitation, or neglect of their welfare by people who are directly responsible for their care. In the U.S. alone, more than half a million reports of elder abuse reach authorities every year, and millions more cases go unreported. Minnesota’s state policy is to provide safe environments and services for vulnerable adults and protective services for vulnerable adults who have been maltreated. The Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center (MAARC) provides a toll-free number, 1-844-880-1574, the general public can call to report suspected maltreatment of vulnerable adults.
